Vaccinations & Immunizations

Why is this a priority?

Lyon County families want to protect their loved ones, but may have questions about vaccines and immunizations. When you get trusted information from local healthcare providers, you can make informed decisions that protect your children, yourself, and your neighbors. The vast majority of Lyon County residents choose to vaccinate after getting their questions answered — because protection is always a priority, especially when it comes to your loved ones.

Immunization Facts

Vaccines are one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect ourselves and the people we care about. They help prevent serious diseases like measles, mumps, diphtheria, and polio. These diseases may seem like things of the past, but they’re still risks if we don’t stay protected. And some vaccine-preventable diseases, like whooping cough, meningitis, hepatitis, and flu, are still circulating every year.

Childhood Immunizations

Children have a recommended immunization schedule that starts at birth and continues through adolescence.

These vaccines help kids build strong immunity and meet school or activity requirements, so they’re ready for anything at home, at school, or out in the world.

If your child doesn’t have insurance, the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program can help. It covers all CDC-recommended vaccines for kids under 19 who are uninsured, enrolled in Medicaid, American Indian/Alaska Native, or underinsured (when seen at certain clinics).

Stay independent, stay healthy.

Adults benefit from vaccines, too! Even healthy adults can be at risk for diseases like shingles, hepatitis B, and pneumococcal disease, which can lead to serious complications, especially as we age.

Staying up to date on adult vaccines helps protect not only yourself but also those around you—like babies, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems. Many adult vaccines, such as Shingrix and the annual flu shot, are covered by private insurance or Medicare. Our Community Clinics are happy to help you navigate your coverage and options.
